"Action isn't a burden to be hoisted up and lugged around on our shoulders. It is something we are. The work we have to do can be seen as a kind of coming alive." — Joanna Macy
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and human who is a first generation American with a proud lineage from North Africa and Eastern and Northwestern Europe.
As a somatic and trauma therapist, I find it an honor to witness other people's journeys to rewire, reparent and heal themselves to feel more alive and connected. I work with all shapes and sizes of trauma, holding a container to work with the fragmentation inflicted upon us by both the wounds of our personal lives and the injustice of our systems.
As a multi-racial, queer, first-generation American, I have a deep-seeded belief and passion for the capacity of all humans to heal familial, generational, and societal wounds and become more connected to themselves, each other, and the land—and more connected to our generational strength and resilience.
I'm given the honor to hold sacred space for folks in my private practice utilizing Somatic Experiencing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), attachment and relational theories, and mindful self-compassion.
Prior to private practice, I worked in the public sector serving foster children and their families as they navigated complex crises and institutional systems. I worked in crisis response and with the Juvenile Dependency Court. In these roles, I organized state-wide conferences to address systemic issues affecting foster youth and adopted children and served on county-wide workgroups to address disparities impacting LGBTQ+ youth. I also worked in the non-profit sector, where I provided strategic planning, public speaking, budgeting, program development, and leadership to a non-profit staff of over 40 employees. I am partnered and a parent to two small children, a lover of books, music, animals, nature, and mindfulness, and I am forever a student of the natural world, learning how to play, dance, and nurture more deeply every day. I truly love the world of therapy, healing, and neuroscience and have a lifelong commitment and passion for on-going training and learning.
"I have the sense that for some of us, the search for a safe home, will inevitably lead us back to our bodies."— Mahshid Hager
Through my own lived experiences and professional training, I approach our relationship with the following modalities and expertise:
A body-based approach to healing trauma and stress that supports the nervous system in returning to balance and resilience.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing helps people gently reprocess difficult experiences and long-held patterns, supporting the brain’s natural ability to heal and allowing for greater ease, clarity, and resilience.
An approach that helps us understand how early relationships shape the way we relate today and influence many of our stuck patterns, supporting healing that fosters greater security, safety, connection, and grounding.
An approach that views healing and growth as occurring in and through connection and relationships, attending to how culture, identity, and power shape our experiences while supporting authenticity, safety, connection and empowerment.
Developing inner compassion as a powerful tool for healing shame and self-criticism.
Cultivating present-moment awareness to support healing and self-regulation.
"Safety is sensed, not believed." —Stephen Porges, PhD
So often, trauma and pain happen in relationships—and healing, too, unfolds through relationships. A truly warm and compassionate space that attunes to you offers a profound gift: the chance to soften, to be seen, and to be understood. When we feel genuinely safe and accepted, we can begin extending that same acceptance toward ourselves. Together, we create space for all parts of you to be felt and welcomed, without needing to change or fix anything, so that a deeper sense of wholeness can naturally emerge.
I bring my full, genuine self into our work together and value a relationship rooted in transparency, collaboration, honesty, and realness. I am not afraid to ask thoughtful, sometimes challenging questions, to gently invite you into uncomfortable places, or to accompany you as you move through experiences that feel hard or scary.
The relationship we build together is central to creating the safety needed for growth and healing. We will move at a pace that feels right for you, building safety, connection, resources, and integration along the way. Your tears, joy, pain, fears, shame, pride, and laughter are so very welcome here.
I hold space for a wide range of experiences and challenges
My work is centered in an understanding that our upbringing, experiences, relationships, and current life stressors impact our well-being and so do systemic issues. I strive to critically examine the way issues of racism, white supremacy, colonialism, fat phobia, ableism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, islamophobia, anti-semitism, and other forms of oppression impact all of us, including my practice as a therapist.
